Review Data on Dashboard
Check that the position, battery voltage, GPS quality, data time stamp and age look reasonable.
Note: CARTHE drifters do not report voltage. Download data using the data page to check the CARTHE drifter voltage flag.
After signing in, the dashboard page appears with a map and a table including the latest transmitted data. If new, the voltage should be around 12 volts, drifters with voltages lower than 8 should have their batteries replaced. The position should be accurate to better than 25 meters. If placed with an open view of the sky, the GPS quality should be 3.
If the data does not appear within 15 minutes of removing the magnet:
- Be certain the unit is placed outside with a clear view of the sky and with no obstructions like trees, or buildings.
- Is the telemetry activated? Most units are activated before they are shipped, but occasionally customers request the units be shipped unactivated. Activate the telemetry here. For help go to Activate or Deactivate Telemetry.
- Is the battery plugged in? Some customers request the battery be unplugged when delivered to extend battery life. This is possible when the battery is accessible and serviceable and it is expected the device will be stored for more than three months before deployment.
- Was the magnet removed before placing the unit outside and not after? If the magnet is removed from the device more than a few minutes before it is set outside, the GPS receiver may have already timed out. The device will eventually try again, but it is probably faster to just replace the magnet for one minute then remove it again with the device outside.
